Re: Globe and Mail to shed about 10 per cent of staff

I take a bit of issue with how my view is being presented here. Twitter is a great tool, to be sure, but my comment shouldn't be interpreted as an indictment of the news from the G&M or mainstream media in general.
I am pleased that student journalists are learning new media skills, but I don't by any means think that things will be better off post layoffs, or that there is some sort of over-arching misunderstanding of the direction journalism is headed.
My (purely subjective) impression is that the actions at the Globe are economically based, and that there are a lot of people within the organization who are pushing new media forward, and working on some pretty impressive projects.
Painting it all as a generational lapse seems to miss a lot of the intricacies of the problems facing media today. But that's just my two cents.
