I've been revisiting some old Larry Sanders Show episodes. There's one called What Have You Done For Me Lately?, in which talk show host Larry is asked by the network to do a live commercial to pimp the Garden Weasel.

It isn't going well.

Here's an exchange between Gary Shandling's character Larry and Hank Kingsley, played by the great Jeffrey Tambor:

Larry: Can I ask you something about these commercials? I don't know what the heck I'm doin' out there, Hank. You've done like 20,000 of these things. Tell me something.

Hank: Well, you know Larry, everybody thinks it's easy. But it isn't. It's an art.

Larry: (Indistinguishable murmur)

Hank: Okay, well look. If you don't believe in your product, okay, you've got to substitute something you do believe in.

Larry: Okay.

Hank: For instance, when I'm out there and I'm pitching the Pearl Creme -- keeps you looking young.

Larry: Yup, yup. I've seen that.

Hank (pointing to own head): Do you know what I'm thinking?

Larry: What, you're not thinking about the Pearl Cream?

Hank: No sir, I am not.

Larry: No? What are you thinking about?

Hank: America. And everything She stands for.
