Just a public notice that I will cheer for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL playoffs.

Addendum

Things went a lot better for the 'Riders this time than they did back in 1988, the last time the team hosted a playoff game. Back then, the 'Riders lost 42-18 to the B.C. Lions.

This time, they beat the Calgary Stampeders 26-24, with the Stamps closing the gap with a touchdown in the dying minutes.

I should note that Saskatchewan is getting close to its one Grey-Cup-victory-per-generation allotment. The flatlanders won in 1966, in 1989 and ... ???

If they get past B.C. next weekend, which won't be easy to do (an understatement), there's still the matter of beating the Eastern division champ. The Toronto Argonauts, while not the champ yet, finished the season strongly. That includes whipping the 'Riders at Taylor Field.

However, the 'Riders fans deserve the title. As I've told friends from the flatlands, the only time I talk CFL football anymore is when I talk it with them. :)

Toronto (and I'm getting ahead of myself here) as a city could care less about a Grey Cup championship*, whereas 'Riders fans would be delirious.

* The Argos won in 2004. I remember some poor woman standing in Dundas Square waving an Argos pennant and asking plaintively, "where's the party?" :)

May the team with the best fans win! :)
