Man charged with Impaired Driving after truck hits building, Carlos Novello, 21, 55 Division

On Thursday, October 11, 2007, at 8:10 a.m., police were called to an address on Eastern Avenue for a truck into a building.

It is alleged that:

- a man attended an auto garage on Eastern Avenue, tied his dog to the side mirror of the truck, and began a conversation with one of the mechanics,

- the accused approached the man's truck and tried to drive away,

- the owner made several attempts to stop the accused and was able to get into the truck through a window, while the truck was in motion,

- the accused drove the truck into a wall of a building on Eastern Avenue, just opposite the auto garage, with part of the wall collapsing on the truck,

- the truck owner attempted to keep the accused from fleeing the scene, but the accused was able to get out of the truck and fell into the basement of the building where he was pinned under falling debris.

The dog was able to break free and was not injured.

Carlos Novello, 21, of Toronto, is charged with:

1) Impaired Driving,
2) Dangerous Operation,
3) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (over),
4) Robbery.

He was scheduled to appear in court on Friday, October 12, 2007, at College Park Courts, room 501, 10 a.m.
