Here's a feature I did for CTV.ca on the how and why of Canada's sorry greenhouse gas emissions record.

Re: Canada's climate change record
Whooee! Howdy BillFeller an' Happy New Year. I jest now read yer CTV story. Lotsa good stuff there. I reckon the big story fer 2007's gonna be ol' Mother Earth. Unless, the BushMan starts a new war or Sammy bin Laden blows sumpin' up. Or maybe if Britney fergits her undies again.
I been sayin' here an' there in the boogeysphere that I figger there's a perfeck storm brewin' fer Lizzie May an' the Greens. Way I see it, Canajuns is woke up t' the troublems we're makin' fer our own stupid selves wrt destroyin' the planet. That's the first ingredient fer that perfeck storm. The other ingredient is disgruntlement with all o' the old-line parties when it comes t' green stuff. I don't reckon the Cons are connin' anybuddy with their newly found enlightened attitude. The Grits talk the talk but they ain't never walked the walk. The Dips talk, too, but they get their marchin' orders from the lunch bucket brigade who work in the auto industry. Dips'll choose dirty factories over clean air everytime. When concern meets disgruntlement, the Canajun voters're gonna see the Greens as the onliest party that really cares 'bout ol' Mother Earth. Left an' right don't matter when yer planet's in trouble. I was readin' a Green guy's boog jest today. He talks bout how the GPC ain't right or left thinkin' but forward-thinkin'. Makes sense, sez I. Hey JB!
Happy New Year to you too! Britney's muff is getting tiresome. :) Harper seems to be prepared to make a big push on the environment. However, the big question for the Greens is whether people park their vote there as a barometer of discontent with the three mainline English parties, or whether a significant shift in attitude on environmental issues is underway. BTW, in a new Strategic Counsel poll tonight for CTV/G&M, the Greens are at 8%, up one point. But despite the focus on the environment lately, they really don't appear to be surging in support. Another problem is, under the first-past-the-post system, people might wonder, "Do I support the Green candidate, or do I go for someone who might have a better chance of being in government?" I will watch how the situation unfolds with great interest! :) Cheers Bill D. Trackbacks
