who employs me
I am a staff writer with CTV.ca News. That operation is part of CTV News, which is of course nestled into CTV Inc. and CTVglobemedia.

I don't speak for my employer on this blog. I don't comment about the internal affairs of my employer.

Any views expressed here are my own.

The Salon blurb: Right-wingers desperate to intimidate the press have accused the New York Times of treason for publishing details of a terror investigation -- ignoring the fact that everything significant about that operation been known for years.

View Article  Where are the soccer super-patriots now?

I watched most of the Portugal-Germany consolation game today. Once Germany went up 3-0 at the 80th minute, I figured the game was over. Time to run a few errands (Portugal did score a late goal after I left, for a final of 3-1).

Oddly enough, I don't recall seeing anyone in Portugal or German colours today, even some of my neighbors who were uber-fans mere days ago. When the game ended, the streets looked pretty much the same as any sleepy Saturday afternoon in Little Italy.

If any German fans drove down the streets to taunt the Portuguese, I missed them (although the Portuguese presumably didn't miss being taunted. :) )

Later, when I walked up College to Dovercourt, I saw one Portuguese flag and one jersey -- and there are a lot of Portuguese bars and restos through there.

It's like there's been some type of instantaneous genocide wiping Portuguese soccer fans off the earth! :)

However, I suspect College Street will be pretty nutty at this time tomorrow if Italy wins, as I think they will. I suspect the Corso Italia up at Dufferin and St. Clair will also liven up.
