Yes, Toronto has people of Ecuadorian descent, or at least supporters of the country's national soccer team. Lots 'o flags, honking horns and jerseys present at Bathurst and College. I learned when I got home that they beat Poland 2-0 -- not an insignificant accomplishment. Oh, to be in Quito! :) Germany's fans are either elsewhere or cooler about soundly thumping Costa Rica 4-2.

According to a U.S. Congressman (as reported by The Globe and Mail), "South Toronto" is a hotbed of Islamic extremism. I live here, and I'm afraid I don't know what part of T.O. that Rep. John Hostettler (R., Ind.) is referring to. more »

Let the games begin! I'm delighted to see the return of the World Cup, although the Euro Cup 2004 had its moments too. For one thing, you really get a sense of what an international city Toronto is. People started flying the flags just about a month ago. more » |
