who employs me
I am a staff writer with CTV.ca News. That operation is part of CTV News, which is of course nestled into CTV Inc. and CTVglobemedia.

I don't speak for my employer on this blog. I don't comment about the internal affairs of my employer.

View Article  A minor police incident

The ride to work on Sunday was uneventful until I got to Kennedy station.

There, as I started riding the escalator from the subway level up to the bus level, two cops and a TTC type were urgently skulking through the crowd.

They were looking for someone in an orange jacket. Funnily enough, there was someone in an orange jacket just above me on the escalator.

The cops approach the guy, who's a middle-aged Filipino man apparently on his way home from a shopping expedition. They box him in and start asking him questions.

I'm looking in askance at the cops. One of them breaks off from the Filipino guy and starts talking to me ("You talkin' to me?").

"Were you on the subway with this guy?" he asked. I said yes.

"Did you see him pull a knife?" he asked. I said no.

"He was sitting with those two," I said, pointing to who I presumed were the guy's wife and teenage daughter, just above him on the escalator. "They were perfectly normal and peaceful the whole time."

"Oh, they're together," said the cop, sounding deflated.

That ended the impromptu interrogation. And I went to work knowing I kept an innocent man from going to prison. :^)
