Five funny movies to take to a desert island

The NYT Magazine asked a number of funny people which five comedies they'd take to a desert island (I'm assuming this would be for a planned shipwreck).

But, screw what those lesser lights like Will Ferrell and Christopher Guest think. You're at this blog because you're fascinated with what I think -- just like I am!

So here it goes, my top five:

1. Animal House

2. There's Something About Mary

3. This Is Spinal Tap

And a few others:

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world

The Party

South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure

Talk about subjective Bill.

There's Something About Mary struck me as stupid and irritating - and I love Animal House, so it's not snobbery.

Strangelove is a film that I watch and appreciate, but couldn't see viewing it over and over for entertainment.

Ferris Bueller I still think is beautiful and brilliant, although others find it as offensive as I find Something About Mary.

My pick though, a film that I own on VHS and truly wish would show up on DVD, is Bruce McDonald's classic Highway 61.

C'mon... it has northern Ontario, Satan, Rock and Roll, Bingo (Lady, you can't cheat at bingo. If you could, I would, but you can't. I won because I was lucky - lucky to wind up in a town full of losers!), Don McKellar, and Jello Biafra as a US Customs Agent.

Although admittedly, not everyone shares my utter fascination with this film.

Oooh! And Zoolander! I love Zoolander! If Jeanne Beker had made a cameo it would have been perfect!

Well Duhh!! :) That's half the fun of these type of lists!

Actually, I like both Highway 61 and Zoolander.

While 'Mary' could well be seen by some as stupid and irritating, I just scream while watching it!
