who employs me
I am a staff writer with CTV.ca News. That operation is part of CTV News, which is of course nestled into CTV Inc. and CTVglobemedia.

I don't speak for my employer on this blog. I don't comment about the internal affairs of my employer.

Jeffrey M. Johnson, the Los Angeles Times publisher who pushed back against job cuts requested by the parent Tribune Co., is now an ex-publisher. He has been replaced with David Hiller, publisher of the Chicago Tribune.

Newsroom staffers have circulated a petition in support of editor Dean Baquet, who shared the same view on the cuts as Johnson.

View Article  Michelle Malkin fires back at YouTube ... with a video posted on YouTube

Michelle Malkin, an off-the-scales U.S. conservative yapper, posted a video to YouTube to continue her spat with management there over a video of hers they had pulled back in February.

A sample quote: "The YouTube crackdown is targeting those of us who unapologetically criticize the throat-slitters who would bomb us all back to the Middle Ages. Oops. Is that 'hateful' and 'inappropriate'?"

Malkin concluded by saying: "YouTube: You've gone dhimmy."

View Article  Lack of support for a pedophiles' party? What kind of chill has descended over Dutch society?!?!* :^)

* Since there are some bloggers out there who like to take things wildly out of context when attacking people they perceive as foes, please be advised the above headline was intended to be ironic and not an actual criticism of Dutch society or its democratic process. Nor should it be seen as an endorsement of the legislative aims of the Brotherly Love, Freedom and Diversity Party. Far from it.

From the BBC:

A Dutch political party formed by a group of paedophiles is unlikely to take part in the country's November elections due to a lack of support.

The Brotherly Love, Freedom and Diversity Party (PNVD) said it had only gathered 100 of the 570 signatures needed by the 10 October deadline.

It believes would-be supporters are afraid to publicly give their backing.

The party seeks to lower the age of sexual consent to 12, and legalise child pornography and sex with animals.

The PNVD was formed by three paedophiles in May, prompting outrage in Dutch society.

View Article  David Rakoff in the Seat of Heat over Canada

On Thursday night's Daily Show, Canadian-born essayist David Rakoff had this observation in response to a question about the key to defeating Canada as he sat in The Seat of Heat.

"What is their Achilles heel? How can we take them and take their precious ... whatever it is they have that's precious?" asked Jon Stewart.

After initially muttering something about softwood lumber that he wisely left as an uncompleted thought, Rakoff said:

Canada will be nothing more than a comma soon (a reference to a Bushism about Iraq that Stewart mocked earlier in the show) ... You know, Canadians are so unfailingly polite that if you simply ask them to cede their sovereignty, you might be very pleased with the results.
