You may be asking on what I base the above observation, given that gas in southern Ontario has gone up to $1.33 per litre in recent days.
I base it on driving behaviour.
I went out for what has become an annual trip to fish Loughborough Lake north of Kingston, which necessitates driving eastward on the 401 (in a rented car in my case).
Actually, I was driving slightly faster than I should; 110 kilometres per hour, with a posted speed limit of 100 km/h.
However, I might as well have been driving 55 km/h.
Some of the people blowing by me had to be doing at least 140 km/h, if not faster.
I believe your gas mileage peaks around 90 km/h, but travelling at 120 km/h instead of 100 really kickstarts the guzzling.
Given that everyone's still driving pretty much like they used to (including me), I think it's safe to conclude that gas is not so expensive as to encourage people in a way that maximizes fuel efficiency.
I would include myself in that.
