Since there is so much vitriol directed at CBC's Promo Girl -- to the extent some people seem to think a total collapse of the CBC is worth it to get rid of her, or that her absence is the most salient benefit of the walkout -- allow me to add my voice to the mix.

When Promo Girl (Halifax actress Shauna MacDonald; the Globe "outed" her) was just Promo Girl on CBC Radio One, I had no problem with the character. Actually, I kinda liked her non-traditional voice.

But when the programming deep thinkers at the Corpse decided to turn her schtick into a daily radio mystery serial, I quickly joined the ranks of of the seriously aggrieved.

Even then, it wasn't primarily aimed at Promo Girl; it was the whole self-referential, inside-CBC-baseball concept.

If that show was successful before falling prey to the lockout, then I can only say, "who'da thunk it?"

If it wasn't, I would have to say that's evidence one should really be careful about subjecting your audience to that type of incestuous* programming.

* As added evidence for that harsh charge, who was the first person George Strombopoulous  interviewed on The Hour?

A: Peter Mansbridge, the most under-exposed man at the Ceeb!! :)
