Karla Homolka's attempt to have a vast blanket tossed over the Canadian news media ended in failure.

An excerpt from the CTV.ca story:

Justice Paul-Marcel Bellavance of Quebec Superior Court ruled Wednesday evening that granting the injunction would be a danger to freedom of the press.

Jennifer Tryon, a reporter with CTV's Montreal affiliate, CFCF, was in the courtroom when the judge made his ruling.

Bellavance said "he was not about to set a huge precedent by essentially gagging the media," said Tryon. Homolka would have to face the media someday, "and he said despite her need for the ordinary, she's going to be treated like every other citizen."

The judge also said the public has the right to know Homolka's whereabouts because of the crimes she committed.

Update:

Karla will be back in court on Monday to try for another injunction. Sigh.
