BBC staff are going to conduct labour stoppages to protest a restructuring plan that will see thousands of jobs eliminated.

An excerpt:

BBC staff are to stage 24-hour strikes on 23 May, 31 May and 1 June in a row over job cuts.

Unions said a fourth stoppage will also be announced to create the "greatest amount of disruption" possible.

Journalists and technicians are protesting at plans to cut 3,780 jobs and privatise parts of the corporation.

Unions Amicus, the National Union of Journalists and Bectu described the cuts as the most damaging in the corporation's history.

The BBC said it had no comment to make at the moment about the strike dates.
