The rig's manoeuvre isn't easy: it has to lurch off streetcar tracks into a construction zone and along an unpaved stretch so workers can unload their cargo. In the end, the brew gets where it's going and kegs will be fresh at the Midtown this week, but will anyone make it to the bar?

College is a mess again. From Bathurst St. to Crawford St., about nine blocks, contractors are tearing up road and pouring new asphalt.

It's nothing new. Last year, the strip of bars, restaurants and shops that make up Little Italy lost April and May so streetcar tracks could be replaced. This year's job is more modest. The work should be finished early next month, its planner says, and traffic can still move, constricted though it is.

In the meantime, though, locals say the area has lost its edge as the city's premier nocturnal destination, with the high-end King St. W. corridor and Queen West muscling in on College's turf. All the construction invites the question: does the city have it in for College St.?
