Protesters rallied Saturday in Baku, Azerbaijan to demand both more press freedom and a faster investigation into the murder of magazine journalist Elmar Huseinov.
An excerpt from the Reuters story carried by the NYT:
... The gathering was much smaller than the crowd that attended the funeral ...
Several thousand gathered for the funeral and the opposition demanded that the country's dynastic ruler, Ilham Aliyev, find Mr. Huseinov's killers or resign within two weeks.
On Saturday, mourners marched to Mr. Huseinov's tomb with the blessing of Mr. Aliyev, who ordered the Baku mayor's office to allow the meeting after it had rejected a request from the Independent and Opposition Mass Media Editors' Union.
"I ordered law-enforcement bodies to investigate the killing as soon as possible," Mr. Aliyev told local television channels. "The death of a reporter mars Azerbaijan's movement toward democracy."
