I was having chatting with some folks on Wednesday night. The topic turned to television -- a subject for which I am at a disadvantage, seeing as I don't have cable.

Deadwood was a big favourite with this crowd (gotta go the DVD route to catch up, I guess). But the subject turned to the relative shortage of good television out there.

"The trouble is there's more TV time than there is good TV to fill it," one person pronounced.

My rejoinder? "There's more lives lived than there are interesting people to live them!"

(rimshot!)

But lest I seem to full of myself, I also added: "And I've contributed more than my fair share to the boredom!"

More seriously, I think people underestimate the difficulties of the creative process. For every Citizen Kane, there's a lot of Freddie Got Fingered or Battlefield Earth.
