Tuesday was an all-star night for disgusting stories on the wires, although I think the 'guy eating his own feces to try and fool a breathalyzer test' yarn tops the 'dead grandma left to rot in a house for nine years' story.

Here's an excerpt from the Toronto Sun story (via CP and azcentral.com) on the driver:

An accused drunk driver tried but failed to foil a police breathalyser after stuffing his mouth full of feces.

``I don't think alcohol alone would make you do something as disgusting as that,'' South Simcoe Police Insp. Tom McDonald said.

``I've never heard of anything like this before,'' said the 28-year police veteran.

And now onto grandma, from the St. Catharines Standard. The two main characters are Katrina Kompel, 57, and her grandmother, Susan Vasil, who was 84 when she died in 1995:

Court heard Compel forbid visitors from coming into the house, stopping them in the doorway. She would tell them her grandmother was sleeping or ill.

She was so adamant no one enter that when her toilets stopped functioning, she disposed of her waste in the garden rather than have a plumber called.

According to a statement of facts, Compel was believed to have tried to seal the interior of the house during the body's decomposition, when the odour in the house would have been intense and there would have been insect infestations.

Vasil's body, still wearing the bedclothes and slippers she wore when she was pulled off the bed in 1995, was identified using forensic DNA.

An autopsy could not determine the cause or date of death, but the pathologist believed she had been dead for a number of years because of the state of decomposition.

After living with the body for 12 years, Compel said she would become a princess and could bury Vasil.
