What I most like about watching State of the Union addresses is how well-choreographed the standing ovations are. Joe Stalin would have been envious!
I feel like Dubya should have a pail full of herring to toss into the crowd after they get up and slap their flippers together -- er, I mean clap.
Anyways, with those snide asides out of the way, here's some links to coverage on George's primetime annual report to Congress and his country. Let freedom ring!
AlterNet: State of the Union goodie bag
The Nation: Deeds not Words - A progressive alternative to the Bush doctrine
NYT: Social security to be focus of much of Bush's speech
The Globe and Mail: Bush to tackle social security
Washington Post: Bush speech to focus on budget
Actually, the Post has a State of the Union home page. Lots of goodies on it, including a photo feature of earlier state-of-the-union addresses, transcripts of Bush's previous SOTU speeches and the promise of live discussion once the speech is finito.
L.A. Times: Bush readies state of union speech
Actually, this story is more important: Dominance on GOP agenda. It's about how the Republicans want to make Bush's legislative agenda so that it maintains the party in power by stripping the Democrats of money and votes.
Democrats vow to block Bush on social security is self-explanatory.
