Matthew Fraser is gone as Editor-in-Chief, kicked upstairs to a strategic planning job. Former deputy Doug Kelly is the new top editorial dog.
An excerpt:
Mr. Fraser clashed with the Post's new publisher Lester Pyette, sources said. He disagreed with some changes made to the paper by Mr. Pyette, who came on board in December and immediately boosted the size of headlines and photographs, and took a more "down market" approach to the paper.
Mr. Pyette also wanted to change the Post into a tabloid format, the sources said, but that idea was scotched by CanWest management.
Mr. Fraser is out of the country on vacation and was not available for comment yesterday. Mr. Kelly and other Post officials did not return phone calls.
The paper is making some other design and format changes today, including reviving the "Weekend Post" feature section, and creating a new weekend version of the Financial Post.
Seems Ms. Zerbisiashad good sources on this one.
