Opposition MPs, mainly the Bloc Quebecois, have been pestering the government about possible CIA-linked flights in Canada.
An excerpt from a CP story via the London Free Press:
The government says if there's evidence CIA-controlled planes are involved in illegal activities in Canada, the matter will be raised with the United States.
Foreign Affairs Minister Pierre Pettigrew, under continuing pressure from the Bloc Quebecois, said in the Commons yesterday Canada expects other countries to respect Canadian law.
"If we were to learn that Canadian soil was being used against Canadian or international laws, then we would raise this with the United States," Pettigrew said. ...
Records obtained by CP show at least six aircraft linked to alleged CIA front companies have landed at Canadian airports, including three in Newfoundland, during the last six months.
The planes are among more than two dozen the New York Times identified as being registered to seven shell companies controlled by the CIA.
Public Safety Minister Anne McLellan has said she has no information that such aircraft stopped on Canadian soil in the process of transferring terrorism suspects to foreign prisons.
