Bill, I'm surprised you're echoing the meme that it's only those ignorant Norwegians who were confused. Shortly after the photo was released, Americans were buzzing about it.

That gesture, a.k.a., the horned hand, has long been associated in the U.S. with Anton LaVey's gang o'followers as this page on Amy Grant attests. I'd be surprised is the Bushes didn't know.

My view of the blogosphere is that it's a fairly interactive, participatory place. If there's a knowledge gap in a post, it's easy for a reader to fill it by leaving a comment.
