who employs me
I am a staff writer with CTV.ca News. That operation is part of CTV News, which is of course nestled into CTV Inc. and CTVglobemedia.

I don't speak for my employer on this blog. I don't comment about the internal affairs of my employer.

Any views expressed here are my own.

The Washington Post, the paper which brought us Watergate 30 years ago, is now the latest to put forward a self-examination of how softly it covered the critical weapons of mass destruction issue in the lead-up to the Gulf War:

Man, I was surfing through the NYT site this evening and came across a bit of sad TV news, although I can't say it's a shocker: West Wing may soon feel the cold steel of the Ratings Reaper's scythe.

View Article  Why am I here?

In the blog world, I mean? I'm a web-based journalist for CTV News Online -- I spend more than enough time online already.

One reason I already post a ton of stuff to CAJ-L, an e-mail list for journalists. By creating a blog, I thought I could archive it.

Since I'm already an inveterate forwarder of stuff I think my friends will find interesting/amusing/enlightening/enraging, I envision this becoming my virtual doctor's office magazine stack -- albiet one that's a lot more au courant -- to share with those who share my interests in media, politics, technology, film, music and the amusing minutiae of life.

Look for an occasional series called Urban Hell. I live in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and there's just some weird, funny -- occasionally appalling and heartbreaking -- stuff you figuratively trip over in the course of everyday life (I didn't mean literally trip over, as in those poor homeless souls sprawled on heating grates). I like to tell stories and Urban Hell somes like a good theme for some of them.

Finally, I read a lot of what can only be described as crazy shit by some politically right-wing bloggers. All it takes for crazy shit to triumph is for good men to not blog -- or something like that.

So here I am.
