Dear philanthropists: You have until midnight tonight to get the Canadian government to double your money and to get a 2004 tax receipt if you donate to tsunami relief.

At CTV.ca, we have stories up which give all the contact info you need if you wish to make a donation to help the relief effort.

Here's some additional donation info, a link to the South-east Asia Earthquake and Tsunami blog (SEA-EAT) and some other information and online resources:

Red Cross: 1-800-418-1111; online

UNICEF: 1-877-955-3111, online

I donated online. It took two minutes, tops. In a rare outburst of communitarianism, two major credit card companies have said they'll donate fees on tsunami transactions.

If self-interest is a motivator, you can get a 2004 tax receipt until Jan. 11. In addition, the federales will match your contribution dollar for dollar.

Andrea Chiu, aka FoxyMoron, has some useful links at her blog on rating donation efficiency.

For general tips on how to avoid being scammed while being good-hearted, check out fraud-aid.com. But generally speaking, stick to donating to the major charities that are experienced in overseas disaster relief work.

And if you don't believe some would be low enough to prey on public generosity, then read this.

More links to tsunami blogs can be found at Blog on blog.

Craig Saila at Living Can Kill You commented on the performance of some of the NGO's Web sites.

I saw the link for the SEA-EAT blog at WarrenKinsella.com.

Another resource any journos out there might be interested in is the tsunami page of the South Asian Journalists' Association.
